17th Triennial of Zagorje Souvenirs Exhibition
On Saturday, July 11, a traveling exhibition from the Museum of Peasant Revolts—the 17th Triennial of Zagorje Souvenirs—opened at the "Old Village" (Staro selo) Museum in Kumrovec. The Triennial of Zagorje Souvenirs is an exhibition event through which the Museum invites interested creators to design new souvenirs based on specific themes. The works featured in this year’s Triennial were inspired by the Museum of Peasant Revolts and the Antun Augustinčić Gallery; an expert jury awarded prizes and commendations to the best entries.
The first prize was awarded to Matej Petrića from the digital agency Digital Innovations d.o.o. (Zagreb) for a "Contemporary Commemorative Souvenir" inspired by the Museum of Peasant Revolts. The second prize went to Zdravka Kramarić from Brdovec for a collection of souvenirs featuring a "little horse" motif—including jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings), magnets, a painting, and small horse figurines on stands—while the third prize was awarded to Silvio Filipec from Zagreb for the card game *1573*.
The expert jury also presented several special commendations for souvenirs that stood out for their quality and innovation. Certificates of recognition were awarded to Nataša Stanić Bellante and Carlos Ignacio Bellante (from the craft business Artefacto, Zagreb) for earrings featuring a linden tree motif; to Gordana Silvaši (from the craft business Studio Big, Slovenia) for magnets and bookmarks themed around peasant life, the Gubec Linden tree, the writer Miroslav Krleža, and Veliki Tabor Castle; to Ivana Šuštić from Marija Bistrica for a small chest and a calendar inspired by Oršić Castle, as well as magnets depicting noble military equipment and the monument to the Peasant Revolt and Matija Gubec by the sculptor Augustinčić; and to Miljenko Ožura from Karlovac for a toy fire truck.
The program was hosted by Anita Paun Gadža, head of the "Staro selo" (Old Village) Museum in Kumrovec, while the exhibition’s curator, Lidija Kelemen, noted that this year’s entries represent a blend of tradition and innovative solutions. The awards and certificates were presented by the chair of the expert jury, Dr. Davorin Vujčić, and the exhibition was opened by Jurica Sabol, Director of the Museums of Hrvatsko Zagorje, who highlighted that, through this traditional exhibition, the museum has been documenting the evolution of souvenirs from the Zagorje region for nearly fifty years.
The exhibition will remain open until August 30, 2026.
