A Living Tradition: See How We Marked European Heritage Days in Kumrovec

Preserving heritage—a fundamental pillar of cultural identity and collective memory—is a collaborative endeavor that weaves together interdisciplinary cooperation, innovative approaches, and the enduring commitment of various social stakeholders.

The theme for European Heritage Days 2026, "Endangered Heritage: Revitalization, Resilience, and New Interpretations," focuses on raising awareness about the necessity of protecting cultural heritage. Here, heritage is viewed not merely as an object of preservation, but as a vital resource—one whose safeguarding requires the active participation and shared responsibility of the entire community. This encourages both experts and the general public to discover new, creative, and sustainable methods for preserving and interpreting heritage, while also fostering care for our shared European cultural and historical identity.

Creative Workshops and Guided Tours for All Generations

The "Staro selo" (Old Village) Museum in Kumrovec actively participated in this initiative by offering visitors a rich, interactive program. Our guests had the unique opportunity to experience traditional crafts and skills firsthand and take part in a variety of inspiring activities:

• Creative workshops such as "Create Your Own Pottery" and "Painting with Wine"—under the expert guidance of our curator and educator, Mateja Harapin, visitors were able to try their hand at traditional crafts and artistic techniques. • Expert-led museum tours – Senior Curator and ethnologist Tihana Kušenić guided visitors through the museum’s permanent exhibitions, highlighting the richness of our cultural heritage and revealing stories and details that formed the core of life in the Zagorje region in times past.

Thank you to all the visitors who supported the preservation of tradition by attending and celebrated these significant days with us!
